We all love open-world games, the sandbox genre alone has a ton of amazing titles. Today, I want to talk about some great open-world games that are available on PlayStation Vita. Of course, there is a wide spectrum of what some people would consider a game ‘open-world’. I’m going to include games that offer an ‘over-world’ leading to sub-worlds, as long as they offer a variety of things to do within that space (your opinion may differ).
Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation
Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation features a unique story and dozens of side quests; it’s as fully featured as any console Assassin’s Creed game would be. The game feels like it was given proper care by developer Ubisoft. You play as a woman assassin for the first time while unraveling an interesting tale of secrets and betrayal. The game used a ‘persona’ mechanic that was introduced in this title, it was a great way to change up the Assassin’s Creed formula.
Minecraft has become a worldwide phenomenon as it has spanned across almost every current gaming platform. This block-laying zombie-slaying game has literally taken over the lives of kid and adult gamers – it’s just that addicting. It’s a charming world of never-ending possibilities. Also, Minecraft is constantly being updated with new features and skin packs, making it impossible to stay away.
Jak and Daxter Collection
A platforming gem by developer Naughty Dog, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. Following up the Crash Bandicoot series, Jak and Daxter has the gorgeous world you would expect from Naughty Dog game. Not just that, the game features exceptional voice acting and incredible third-person platforming-action. This was the must-have series during the PlayStation 2 era, and now it’s incredible having the whole collection in the palm of my hand.
Framerate issues aside, looting and item collecting have never been this addicting. Borderlands 2 comes packing with an ungodly amount of guns and personalized weaponry. Not only that, but the combat is balls-to-the-walls insanity! Each class comes prepped with unique functions; from guns-a-blazing, to slowly stalking and assassinating your enemies. No matter how you like to play your games, there’s a class that fits your playstyle in Borderlands 2.
Ratchet & Clank Remastered
In 2002, the (now famous) Ratchet and Clank series was born on PlayStation 2. Set in futuristic space, in a world filled with robots and high-tech gadgets. Ratchet and Clank travel through a vast solar system of planets, on a mission to stop the Blargian Chairman Drek from extracting large portions of other planets and re-attaching them to his new world. This game offers a ton of guns and upgrades that will keep you busy for countless hours.
