Full spoilers of Resident Evil 7
With Resident Evil 7’s new “Not a Hero” DLC right around the corner, we will (hopefully) finally get answers to all the questions that the ending of the main game had left us with. Like why is Chris working for the new Umbrella? What is the unknown organization that Lucas works for? Where is Leon Kennedy and the rest of the well known Resident Evil cast? The ending had certainly left us with more questions than it did answers. After a delay and almost a year since the vanilla game launched, here’s what we know, don’t know, and can expect from this ambitious add-on content.
So, what do we know so far? This DLC takes place immediately after the events of the main campaign. Chris Redfield and his team drops in at the last minute to rescue Ethan, and depending on your choice in the game, Mia as well. They can be seen being flying away in a helicopter marked “Umbrella Corporation” that has a new blue and white emblem. From what we have seen in the trailers, Chris is tracking down the evasive Lucas Baker who managed to get away from Ethan while in the mines during the main storyline.
What We Know
From what we have seen of the Not a Hero DLC thus far, we see Chris fighting his way through the booby-trapped infested mines filled with hordes of different molded creatures, including ones that have yet to be seen. He uses an arsenal of different weapons in comparison to Ethan, including multiple handguns, a shotgun, a combat knife — as well as some type of explosive device (in addition to his boulder punching prowess that everyone loves). It appears that this will be a much more action-packed story compared to the main game, but what else could we expect from a Chris campaign?
But there was one thing that caught my eye and made me start to think. There are a few moments throughout the “Lucas” trailer that we see a device on Chris’s wrist; a crude looking device that looks as if it could have been created by Lucas himself. Possibly some type of explosive that is set to explode if Chris doesn’t follow the rules of the game that Lucas has set up. Similar to the wrist devices Claire and Moira were wearing in Resident Evil: Revelations 2. It’s possible that Chris falls into one of Lucas’s traps and is now forced to play in one his ‘Jigsaw’-like games that involve trying to save his fellow agents. We already know that Lucas is an expert in engineering and is practically a genius; he is obsessed with putting his victims through mentally torturing puzzles before inevitably killing them.
Lucas has shown to have a very unstable and seemingly childlike brain, possibly from all the years of bullying and abuses he has succumbed to throughout his childhood. We already know that he does possess the “gift” that Eveline gave him to regenerate, but an unknown source gave him a serum that prevents Eveline from controlling him. In return, that same unknown source asked Lucas to spy on the family for them.
So Many Questions
What did does the unknown organization want? Why is the DLC called “Not a Hero”? And most importantly, where’s my boy Leon at? We will at least get an answer to one of those questions. But in all seriousness, I am excited to download this game and dive back into the world of Resident Evil 7. How about you?
