It seems with almost every generation of consoles Sega bestows upon it a collection of classic titles. The newest addition of classic Sega games is coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 29, 2018. The collection will release in both digital and physical formats with bonuses for those opting for the physical release.
Among the 50+ classic gems from Sega’s vault are Shining Force, Altered Beast, and a teased Sonic 3D Blast. There is no confirmation on a complete list of what you can expect from the pack just yet, but if the release has already piqued your interest, pre-orders will soon open for physical copies.
Those who pre-order will receive in the US and Europe will get a double-sided Golden Axe and Streets of Rage poster. The art is promised to be identical to the”…ones you will see in the game’s 90s inspired retro gamer’s bedroom,” which is the hub in-game where you can select what title to play. There’s an additional free update that will be coming to those who already own the SEGA Genesis Classics on PC via Steam, aligning the PC release with the content that will become available on consoles.
Many of the games are not confirmed at this time, but we do know that the collection will focus on specifically on Sega Genesis titles. From the mentions in the press release, here are what we can guess will be included:
- Altered Beast
- Alien Storm
- Shining Force
- Sonic 3D Blast
- Golden Axe
- Streets of Rage
- Gain Ground
- ToeJam & Earl
- Light Crusader
- The End of the Millenium
- Landstalker: Treasures of King Nole
- Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
