A Kotaku article by Jason Schreier went up earlier today. The article discusses the initial promise and the resounding plight of Hangar 13, the studio behind the middling Mafia III. While the article itself is quite well-written, offering a detailed account of how a fast-paced industry can leave a studio in the dust, what will stand out the most to readers is the casual mention of a new Bioshock game being in development.
Schreier, a respected industry leaker, also tweeted about the Bioshock game, stating that “Among other details, I learned while reporting this story: Right next to Hangar 13, a top-secret 2K studio is now working on a top-secret new BioShock game.”

Many probably considered the eventual resurrection of the series inevitable, even if famed creative director Ken Levine is no longer working on the Bioshock series. Schreier’s article does not give much information about the game; all we know based on what he said is that the game exists, it is top secret, and it has at least a few former Mafia III developers.
Whether or not the series can maintain the high acclaim earned by the original Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite is yet to be seen. Without Ken Levine at the helm, a new creative direction is almost a certainty, and how true it will remain to the original games will probably not be determined until Take-Two decides to let the cat out of the bag.
