A very good chunk of EA’s presentation was dedicated to Anthem. They had a slow build into it, starting with a monster from it coming out of a screen at the start and a promise for more later. Well, midway through, after tons of sports games, they dropped a cinematic trailer that shows off a bit more of the setting and story. But the real meat came even later when they brought out some developers to talk about it in detail. You can pilot four different types of Javelin suits: Ranger, Colossus, Interceptor, and Storm. And it’s confirmed that the game will not include loot boxes, only cosmetics (that aren’t pay to win, thankfully).
Then they dropped a gameplay trailer and, oh man, it’s amazing. When it was first teased people said it was EA’s answer to Destiny but after seeing the gameplay it is clearly so much more than that. You have full flight capabilities, a really pleasing HUD design, and giant monsters to hunt. Honestly, it gives me more Monster Hunter vibes than Destiny now. Monster Hunter in space? Heck yes.
The cinematic trailer is right below. The gameplay is hidden a little bit in the second video of all their talk about the game. You can skip to the amazing stuff at 13:16 in. Make sure you at least watch the gameplay. I went from hardly caring about this game at all to being very close to buying it day one. Let us know what you guys think! Anthem launches on February 22, 2019.
Been a fan of video games ever since I opened up a Game Boy with Pokemon Yellow one Christmas far too long ago. I even taught myself to read by playing it! From then on, games and words have always been linked for me. I found that what I really liked about video games (and every other thing I owned) was the stories they held. I’m honored to be here, using my words to talk about the wonderful worlds that games can take us to.
