Square kickstarted their E3 showcase with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Lara is shown fighting with a plane to keep it in the air (or at least crash it gracefully). That is apparently how the full game starts, it’s a pretty intense moment so I can see why. But after that, they showed some gameplay and, wow, it looks like they have taken everything to the next level. Lara is shown sneaking around a jungle, taking out guys left and right. She takes out a whole group of people by shooting one guy with something that makes him turn on his allies. She shoots people from behind. At one moment she pulls an enemy up on a rope with her and strangles him. Definitely, the coolest move shown.
The story bits shown make it clear that this is a new Lara. This is the end of her origin trilogy and she will finally become the Tomb Raider we’ve known in the original games. As she is becoming that version of herself, she will also be fighting to stop the Mayan apocalypse. That’s a cool goal in my book.
We will update this post once the trailer and gameplay are up. Are you guys looking forward to Shadow of the Tomb Raider?
Been a fan of video games ever since I opened up a Game Boy with Pokemon Yellow one Christmas far too long ago. I even taught myself to read by playing it! From then on, games and words have always been linked for me. I found that what I really liked about video games (and every other thing I owned) was the stories they held. I’m honored to be here, using my words to talk about the wonderful worlds that games can take us to.
