Fortnite became a huge phenomenon practically overnight. It even managed to overtake its rival PUBG, possibly due in part to Epic’s game running at a proper number of FPS and being available on more platforms, but also due to the sheer quality of its gameplay. PS4 owners have enjoyed Fortnite for a while now, but Sony is under fire for the seeming incompatibility of the PS4 and Switch versions. Here’s why it’s more than OK to enjoy Fortnite on the PS4.
First of all, it’s worth noting that this is not just an issue with people who played on PS4 being unable to log onto their Fortnite account on the Switch. The same is true for players who played first on Switch and then tried logging into the same account on the PS4. The only reason why this seems like more of a PS4 problem is the game only recently launched on the Switch whereas many people have already played the game on their PS4s. This issue is also non-existent for PS4 owners who have other platforms including PC and mobile.
This is clearly a Fortnite account issue. Epic Games is behind Fortnite, and therefore, Fortnite accounts. Therefore, Epic Games are the ones who should resolve this issue. It makes no sense to blame one of the platform holders for an issue that isn’t rooted in that particular platform at all. Rather, what we’re seeing is an issue with the service as a whole. I for one will be productive and point the blame at its actual source rather than at a convenient scapegoat.
Ok, there’s an elephant in the room that needs to be addressed that may also be a contributing factor in why people are quick to blame Sony here. Sony has taken a bit of a hard stance on cross-platform play, and that has ruffled the feathers of some gamers. The recent Fortnite issue is just as good an excuse as any to reopen a discussion on the cross-play debacle. Convenient opening or not, however, incorrectly blaming a company for a problem they had nothing to do with is still just as misguided. Oh, and cross-play and which platforms a player can log into with their third party account are separate issues.
Regardless of all the drama surrounding Fortnite and account compatibility between two particular platforms, the game is fantastic on the PS4. Seriously, don’t be afraid to play the PS4 version of the game if it is your system of choice. Likewise for Switch owners. No matter which systems you own, you’re in for a great time should you check out this Battle Royale masterpiece. Oh, and if you don’t happen to own both systems or desire to play the game on both, this issue is non-existent and will not affect your experience in any way, shape or form. If you do and are inconvenienced by this, be productive and holler at Epic Games and I’m sure it will be dealt with soon.
Are you inconvenienced by the PS4/Switch Fortnite account issue? Has this affected your Fortnite experience? As always, feel free to leave your comments below.
Trevor Ross has been an avid gamer since the age of four. Now he owns more games than he will ever have time to play, numbering in the hundreds. He has made his peace with this fact however, and simply cannot resist adding to his collection, especially when he can get games for a good price.
