The PS4 has been a huge success since it launched back in 2013, and its level of success has just been further increased after hitting a pretty major milestone: over 80 million units have now been shipped worldwide. This comes after Sony reported that it shipped 3.2 million PS4 units during the Q1 2018.
Really, the actual number is 82.2 million units. According to Financial Data Researcher “Dom”, the PS4 is the 10th gaming system of all time to hit this milestone and Sony’s 5th piece hardware to do so.
Sony announced it shipped 3.2 million PlayStation 4 units during its 1st quarter 2018, bringing lifetime shipments to 82.2 million.
It's the 10th piece of gaming hardware (inc handhelds) to eclipse 80 million. And Sony's 5th.

With this achievement, the system has managed to outsell its predecessor. The PS3 took seven years to ship 80 million units, whereas the PS4 has now done it in less than five.
With growing talks of the PS5, it’s not clear how much longer the PS4 will remain on the front lines of Sony’s hardware division, but nevertheless, it will go down in history as a very successful platform.
