Mortal Kombat 11’s story mode is taking us to the past! As part of Sony’s presentation, Mortal Kombat 11´s new story trailer unveiled at State of Play. This trailer is titled New Skool vs. Old Skool. It focuses on several staple characters in the franchise meeting their version from the past.
One of the highlights was watching Johnny Cage from the past meeting his present day version. It is just funny and somewhat cringy to see Johnny’s old cocky attitude in contrast with his more mature, yet still pretentious, future self. According to a post on PlayStation Blog, not all Mortal Kombat 11 characters are going to meet their past versions through the story.
The idea of these encounters is to enjoy the evolution that Mortal Kombat characters have made across all these years. Those characters that do meet their counterparts are in for a treat. They will either be happy about who they have become or will have to face the harsh truth of what they will become ultimately.
This trailer showed several Mortal Kombat favorites getting the Old Skool vs. New Skool treatment. Liu Kang and Kung Lao were amongst those. We also got a first look at Jax! Who met his modern counterpart with awe and surprise. All characters look better than ever, in both their present and past iterations.
More details about the story will come soon!
This story trailer seems to be just a sneak peek of what NetherReal Studios has in store for Mortal Kombat 11. It looks like story mode is getting a lot of attention in this entry of the acclaimed fighting saga. Hopefully this clashes between past and present end up shaping a great story. Mortal Kombat has the lore for it and deserves it.
