Yacht Club Games, the studio that brought us the amazing Shovel Knight back in 2011, has finally moved on to something new. Six years and countless substantial Shovel Knight expansions later, the independent developers have announced Cyber Shadow, a title they are helping to publish
Working together with Aarne “MekaSkull” Hunziker, the one-person team behind the game, Yacht Club will be responsible for “the marketing, porting, business side, and typical roles of a publisher.”
According to the official announcement, Cyber Shadow is a 2D side-scrolling platformer that blends “the level design principles of Mario, the skills and action of Ninja Gaiden, the enemy designs of Contra, and the dark visual aesthetic of Batman.”
It quite reminds us of The Messenger, but with a coat of cybernetic paint all over it. There is fast-paced action, plenty of precise platforming, and requires some quick reflexes, much like Shovel Knight.
There are items to be equipped, secrets to find, skills to upgrade, and more. Not to mention a truly captivating soundtrack produced by the Jake Kaufman (Shovel Knight, Crypt of the NecroDancer).
If you happen to be at PAX East this week, the studio will be showing off Cyber Shadow, alongside Shovel Knight: King of Cards and Shovel Knight: Showdown.
Cyber Shadow will be arriving on the PS4 and other platforms at an unannounced date.
