Sony recently shared the company’s latest earnings report, with the PS4 shipping 96.8 million units worldwide. That is awesome news for the PlayStation family, especially considering that the next PlayStation has been confirmed by system architect Mark Cerny.
However, in the earnings report, we also got further confirmation of the existence of the next-generation console, with Sony citing an “increase in development expensed for the next generation console” for their gaming division.
While the news of the PS5 came out of seemingly nowhere, according to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, it could have been a preemptive move to prevent leaks as next-gen PlayStation devkits were on their way to third-party studios at the same time.
While we continue to speculate on the best price for the next PlayStation console, or how Sony is learning from Nintendo, suffice to say, everyone is excited to find out more!
