Activision confirmed today that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is launching on October 25th of this year. Along with this information, we now know that Infinity Ward is behind the development of the game. In addition, Activision also confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will feature cross-play between consoles and PC and no Season Pass.
A new narrative experience
According to Activision and Infinity Ward, Modern Warfare will focus its narrative on how a volatile the global balance of power is. They describe the story as a unified narrative experience between a single player campaign, multiplayer and new mode focused on co-op gameplay. It seems that the story elements intertwine between all the available modes in the game, it is still unclear on how that mechanic will play at the moment. Thus, further information may arise at E3.
Dave Stohl, co-Studio Head at Infinity Ward stated:
“This is a completely new Modern Warfare, reinvented in every way, ” “We are creating an emotionally charged experience that is inspired by the headlines of today’s world, where the rules are gray and the lines of battle are blurred. Players will join a diverse group of international special forces and freedom fighters in exciting and moving missions across the iconic European cities and volatile Middle East extensions. It’s intense, it’s exciting and we can’t wait for our fans to play it in October. “
Cross-Play and no Season Pass
According to Patrick Kelly, Creative Director and co-Studio Head at Infinity, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was designed with every decision been about the players. Their idea is to unite the community of Call of Duty more than ever. To achieve this, cross-play will be supported between consoles and PC. There’s no more information as to how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Cross-Play is going to work, but we can expect more details at E3. In addition, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will not follow the traditional season pass mechanic. Kelly expressed that this will allow them to offer free maps and content as well as post-launch events for all players.
Modern Warfare is taking the modern part seriously. The game is built in a new graphical engine. This new engine allows a physics-based material system that enables cutting-edge photogrammetry, global volumetric lighting, 4K HDR, and more.
