The latest instalment of the Call of Duty franchise has just been revealed, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will continue Activision’s and Sony’s partnership in regards to post-release content.
With cross-play being a touted feature, this will be interesting as a trailer on PlayStation’s YouTube channel confirms the DLC-exclusivity for PS4 first.
Thankfully, it is a shorter period than most. “Play new content first on PlayStation 4,” the main message says, with the fine print adding that the exclusivity period is for a week. “New playable content, when available, will launch on PS4 seven days prior to launch on other platforms.”
This exclusivity partnership has been in place since 2015’s Black Ops III, which was a monumental switch from Activision’s deal with Xbox previously.
This new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be doing things differently, with all post-release maps being free, as well as the previously mentioned cross-play support between PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Infinity Ward will be responsible for this soft reboot of the 2007 classic, with a stronger focus on singleplayer, unlike last year’s Black Ops 4.
The narrative will be focused on the balance of global power, and takes a more contemporary look at conflicts that will feel more familiar to the present. It will be a unified narrative experience throughout singleplayer, multiplayer, and a new co-op mode. More will definitely be shared with E3 2019 happening in just under two weeks’ time.
