After a long wait and several teases later from Mortal Kombat 11 creator Ed Boon, we finally have a look at the upcoming DLC fighters joining the roster in the Kombat Pack, including sorcerer Shang Tsung. He is portrayed by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa–the same actor who plays him in the live-action film.
One of the franchise’s enduring antagonists, the soul-hoarding Shang Tsung will be the first DLC character of the Kombat Pack, available early on June 18 for those who have bought the DLC. Kombat Pack owners will also have access to Klassic Skins for Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Noob-Saibot.
Shang Tsung has undergone many major changes since being the original antagonist for Mortal Kombat, including stepping aside for the hulking Shao Kahn and conniving Shinnok. However, what remains the same is his combat style, focused on stealing others’ souls and using their moves against them.
You can not only steal your opponent’s appearance and skills, but Shang Tsung can also utilise the souls of returning ninjas Rain, Smoke, and Ermac (all three are found deceased in Mortal Kombat 11‘s Krypt) in battle. That means Smoke’s teleports, Ermac’s telekinesis, and Rain’s mastery over water.
His Fatality is even more cinematic, summoning the dead mid-boss from Mortal Kombat 2, Kintaro, in the most gruesome of fashions.
Joining Shang Tsung will be the returning Nighwolf and Sindel, both from Mortal Kombat 3, as well as the first guest character, Image Comic’s Spawn. This follows plenty of leaks in the previous months, which also point towards MK3‘s Sheeva and Evil Dead‘s Ash Williams and his signature chainsaw.
Priced at $39.99, the Kombat Pack adds access to six new characters and 19 more skins for the fighters in Mortal Kombat 11. Like all current fighters, each addition will come with their own sets of unlockable gear and skins, and will definitely make your trips to the Krypt much more varied/frustrating.
Trophy hunter and dedicated completionist, love to talk all things games!
