After initial plans to release Psychonauts 2 in 2019, developers Double Fine have now pushed the game to 2020.
Announced in a post on crowdfunding site, Fig, the recently Microsoft-acquired studio said that the taking the decision to delay the game was a tough one, but ultimately it was the right thing to do in order to make sure Psychonauts 2 a better game than before.
“We’re now targeting next year for release. We know it’s always disappointing when you have to wait a bit longer, but we also know that you are an amazing, supportive bunch, who–just like us –want the game to be as good as possible. So we’re hopeful you’ll understand,” Double Fine said.
Raising $3.9 million in funding in 2016, Psychonauts 2 has been in the works for quite a while, but PS4 owners need not worry as the studio also confirmed in the same blog post that the game will still be releasing on every promised platform despite their acquisition by Microsoft.
Although we will have to wait till 2020 to get our hands on Psychonauts 2, Double Fine’s next title Rad will soon be out on August 20, published by Bandai Namco, and is a 3D action rogue-like romp with mutations and a striking visual style.
