Another day, another Dark Souls-like action game is arriving on the PlayStation Store, only this time, teedoubleuGAMES’ Immortal Planet seems to be living up to the hype. Not only does it have an art style that is easy on the eyes, but the overall mood and setting can only be described as foreboding. That is music to anyone who loves the world that the Souls games reside in.
As the PlayStation Store listing puts it, Immortal Planet places you “on the icy surface of a forgotten planet stand ruined tombs where immortals sleep. While sleepless warriors roam the halls with their minds eroded by eternity, a lone Awakewalker emerges from cryosleep. With no memory of their past, it’s up to them to forge their future, discover the planet’s mysteries, and find a way out of this icy hell.”
The action game promises “Souls-like progression,” with every death a huge cost as you seek to upgrade your character, “tight level design” with unlockable shortcuts and just a single checkpoint, “intense boss fights” that are usually multi-stage battles, and “methodical combat,” where your patience and focus is much more important than your reflexes.
It all sounds like a perfect way to spend an afternoon, especially if you are looking for something akin to the Souls games, but just not quite as hard.
