The Alien franchise is known for its strong female character Ellen Ripley and the folks behind the upcoming game Alien: Isolation were always keen to follow in the movie’s footsteps. The senior designer at Creative Assembly, Gary Napper said in an interview with Arabic Gamers that they had always planned for the main character to be a strong female even before they’d chosen that character to be Amanda Ripley.
“We knew we wanted a strong female lead for the main character,” he said. “When we first started making the game the character we put in was a female crash test dummy.”
Napper explained how it soon became obvious that Amanda Ripley was the best choice for the game.
“We kind of dug into it a bit and thought well, when the Nostromo went missing that must have been like the Titanic. This big thing goes missing and everyone must have been looking for it. Surely someone would be looking.
“And that was where Amanda Ripley was. She’s in the Ripley family, she’s constantly going to be searching, she’s also grown up without a mother so she’s going to be very self sufficient and driven.”
Alien: Isolation is due to be released on October 7th for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
