There’s been a lot of noise from Gearbox in regards Borderlands 3 as we get closer to its launch date. That hype train doesn’t seem to be slowing down at all. Recently we learned from Scott Velasquez, Online & Social Product Owner for Borderlands 3, about many technical details of the game. According to Velasquez, Borderlands 3 will support HDR and two resolution modes for PS4 Pro.
New engine and PS4 Pro Perks
Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel were both developed on a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3. This time around, Borderlands 3 was developed completely on Epic’s new graphic engine, Unreal Engine 4.
One of the main differences that Velasquez pointed between the base model and Pro versions is the possibility of higher resolutions and higher framerates on PS4 Pro. Borderlands 3 will support 4K output and HDR on PS4 Pro. Both options can be individually configured, which mean you can play the game at 1080p and HDR or 4K without HDR if you wanted it.
Velasquez mentioned that there will be two graphical settings for PS4 Pro users: ‘favor performance’ which will increase framerate capped at 60 FPS and render at 1080p and ‘favor resolution’ that aims for the highest possible resolution with a 30 FPS cap. As well, if Borderlands 3 is set to run at 4K on a 1080p display, it will downsample to 1080p creating a crisper image.
