It seems like a lifetime ago that the 3D platformer ruled the game world. This somewhat-forgotten genre appears to be making a bit of a comeback, though. We have seen remasters of old 3D platformers like the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. A couple of years ago we got the frustratingly disappointing Yooka-Lalyee, though it has to be said that Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair looks interesting. It appears that indie developer, Chameleon Games, is a fan of the genre as they have just revealed their new title Tamarin with a surprising trailer. What’s surprising about it I hear you ask? Well, it takes a hard-right turn in the last bit of the video. Take a look below –

Yes, what starts out (and continues for most of its running time) as an adorable mascot platformer suddenly turns into a shooter? It’s certainly a brave move and not one that puts me off it, to be honest. Tamarin is a pretty looking game and I have to say that I am intrigued to see where it goes. There is no official release date for the game yet. All Chameleon Games has said is that it should launch sometime in Q4 2019 for PC and PlayStation 4.
