Ahead of the commencement of the World Series tomorrow, Sony has now officially given us a look at next year’s iteration of its exclusive and long-running MLB The Show franchise. Launching on March 17, 2020, Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Báez will be the cover star of MLB The Show 20.
Báez has been one of the league’s standout players for a while now, placing second in the National League’s MVP race back in 2018. He was also a World Series winner with the Cubs back in 2016, finally ending the franchise’s 108-year title drought.
Speaking on his appointment as cover star, Baez said:
I am so honored and excited to be on the cover of MLB The Show 20. I’ll never forget how it felt when I saw myself in the game for the first time (even as a backup!). It was so surreal. Still, it’s one thing to see your virtual self, but it’s completely next level to be on the cover of a game you’ve played and love. Let’s go!
In 2020, there will be four different ways to experience MLB The Show 20: the Standard edition, MVP edition, Digital Deluxe edition, and the Anniversary edition. Each version will have its assortment of in-game currency, card packs, and team avatars. The editions outside of the standard one will also grant early access to the game a week earlier on March 13 if you pre-order them.
