Blizzard has confirmed at BlizzCon 2019 that Diablo IV will have cosmetic microtransactions.
The news comes from PCGamesN who picked up that Twitch Streamer Quin69 spoke with the Joe Shely, the Lead Designer on Diablo IV, and asked him about microtransactions. Quin69 asked Shely the following “so, microtransactions? Is that going to be through some sort of shop?” Joe Shely then replied with “It’s very early […] but yes.”
This doesn’t clearly state what will be available to buy through microtransactions in Diablo IV; but, it does clearly show that they will be there when the game launches. However, Shely also confirmed that the game will “not sell power.” So, at least the microtransactions will be exclusive to cosmetic items only.
Blizzard’s latest entry in the Diablo franchise was announced at BlizzCon 2019 with two trailers. Those trailers showcased the dark and bloody world Blizzard are emphasising with Diablo IV. Game Informer then released some new gameplay footage from the game, showcasing action as both a Barbarian and a Druid.
Alongside Diablo IV‘s cosmetic microtransactions, Blizzard have also confirmed that they are experimenting with crossplay for the title and are “Very excited” by the idea of it.
Diablo IV is coming to PS4. No release date has been announced.
