It would appear that Anthem, BioWare’s much-scrutinised shared-world shooter for major platforms, is not dead in the water. The game will be celebrating the upcoming holiday season with a new winter-themed event. Icetide will bring snow and ice to Anthem, along with celebrations and festivities, but also in-game challenges for players to overcome.

An early preview for the Public Test Server for PC players took place over the weekend, and we learned of some of the content that will be included. The Tyrant Mine Stronghold will be available with a touch of Icetide seasonal change, and freeplay will see additional outlaws, Snow Globe Storms, and an all-new Time Trial event. The hub of Fort Tarsis and the Launch Bay will also be decked out in decorations. We expect Icetide to come to Anthem shortly before Christmas.

This follows the recently added Mass Effect armor to celebrate N7 Day, as well as the more monumental change to how new content will be added to the game. BioWare has made the decision to ditch the release of Acts in favor of seasonal updates.

“We hear your concerns on core issues in Anthem and are acting on it,” BioWare’s Chad Robertson said. “Those systems require a more thorough review and re-working versus quick fixes. We’ve got a team working on that now, and early results are promising. In order to address these long-range plans, we are moving away from the Acts structure for updates. Instead, we have additional seasonal updates planned for this year that we think players will enjoy.”

“These events will deliver challenges and chases similar to what you’ve seen, and are built around some fun themes we’re bringing to the game.”

Fans who are still playing Anthem will be glad to hear that, and transparent communications will only make things easier.

We also want to ensure we’re backing up our words with a great game you can play. So I don’t have any news today to share about the long-term changes we are bringing to Anthem. What I can say is that we will continue to engage with you, our community, through PTS when we can show you what is coming.
