As the Season of Opulence descends upon Destiny 2 as part of the current annual pass, Penumbra, many are already casting their eyes to the future. Eager dataminers have gone through the game’s latest patch, Update 188.8.131.52, and has seemingly uncovered the important details about the next expansion, Shadowkeep.
As shared on Reddit, Shadowkeep will be coming this Fall for Destiny 2, and will take Guardians back to the Moon. A sight familiar to many from the first game, you will do battle against new variations of the Hive faction. Its description reads:
“The next chapter in the Destiny experience arrives this fall as terrifying shadows descend upon a forgotten moon. Return to the lunar surface. Journey deep into a mysterious enemy citadel. Become a slayer of nightmares.”
A June 6 announcement has been put in place by Bungie to share more about the next plans for Destiny 2, and this could be the very content they will announce this week or even next week at E3 2019.
Following the last expansion, Forsaken, it would make total sense for Destiny 2 to return to the Moon. With the Hive attacking the Dreaming City and locking the location in a constant three-week cycle, it would appear that the Guardians will take the fight to them on the Moon to end the torment.
After splitting with Activision, Bungie’s plans for Destiny as a franchise remains unclear, and be it more content or a new game in the works, June 6’s announcement will surely hold some key details all Guardians will be keen to learn.
