It is finally happening, whether you like it or not. Developers CD Projekt Red has officially announced that multiplayer will be coming to the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, albeit as post-launch content.
This follows years of the developers maintaining that it is “definitely not a multiplayer shooter” back in 2014, to Producer Richard Boryzmowski saying that they were “exploring multiplayer modes” during Gamescom 2019. Today, a tweet from their official Twitter account has confirmed the new development.
1/2 Until now, the only thing we said about multi was that it was in R&D. As we’re getting closer to launching ‘single player’ Cyberpunk 2077 in Apr. 2020, we’d like to confirm that multiplayer's in the works! “The plan for now is to deliver Cyberpunk 2077 in April, then follow up with DLCs (free!) and single-player content, and–once we’re done–invite you for some multiplayer action,” continues the tweet.
Of course, it would hard to imagine a multiplayer slice of what we have already been shown so far for the game. It will definitely take some tweaks and changes, but if anyone can do it, our money’s on the Polish developers delivering yet another polished product and bring something new to the table for multiplayer.
This will also mark the first time a multiplayer component is being worked on by CD Projekt Red since Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Will there be a Cyberpunk 2077 card game? We will have to wait and find out after the game launches on April 16, 2020, for PS4 and other platforms.
