Sony has rolled out a brand new firmware update for the PlayStation 4 family of systems. This bumps up the firmware version to 5.03. As usual, the patch notes are exactly what you’d expect from past updates:

Main features in version 5.03 update

  • This system software update improves system performance.

Patches like this have basically become known as secret security updates. This seems to be an incognito way of saying “we found a system exploit and took care of it before you sneaky hackers get your hands on it.” But, who knows, it really could just be a performance booster after all…

In any case, go ahead and download the patch now if your PS4 has not already updated itself.
