Despite working on both Apex Legends and the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Respawn Entertainment is also in the VR space. The studio’s upcoming VR game will be announced next month, with no details revealed just yet.
However, Respawn has been insistent that this will not be the “premium” Titanfall experience that they are also developing.
An Oculus blog post stated that Respawn’s new title will be revealed at the upcoming Oculus Connect happening from September 25-26. The description of the VR title reads as “triple-A first-person combat title made in partnership with Oculus Studios.” There will be a hands-on demo at Oculus Connect.
With experience in creating stellar first-person action titles like Titanfall and Apex Legends, it would probably help Respawn for this first-ever venture into VR. What is more exciting is where this title fits in, either as a spin-off of existing franchises, or an entirely brand new property.
While the new VR title is being developed in partnership with Oculus Studios, no word yet if it will eventually end up on PS VR.
Respawn is currently working on a limited-time event for Season 2 of Apex Legends, as well as Season 3, while also developing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which will come out this November 15.
In other news, Oculus Connect 2019 will also have ILMxLAB to talk more about their VR experience, Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series. The first episode of the Oculus Quest exclusive was met with favourable feedback, especially with its lightsaber mechanics and canonical story. The second episode will allow players to utilise the Force.
