The Sony E3 conference has unveiled a new trailer and gameplay for Insomniac Games’s Spider-Man, and it delivers on everything comic book lovers (like me) could want from it. It all takes place at the Raft, the super-powered prison where all of Spider-Man’s captured villains are incarcerated. In a twist that will surprise no one, all the prisoners get freed, and Spider-Man has to fight his way through the entire Raft.

Spider-Man has run-ins with Electro, Rhino, Mr. Negative, Scorpion, and the Vulture, and every encounter is peppered with the witty dialogue we would expect from a great Spider-Man comic. But more importantly, the gameplay looks solid, if a bit clunky. Spider-Man leaps around in combat, every attack feeling agile and punishing. He also has web shooter fluid, which seems to regenerate over time, and pretty quickly too. Perhaps it’s only there to prevent combos from becoming limitless.

There’s still no release date for Spider-Man, but I think the game is starting to come together in a pretty exciting way. This will probably be a day one purchase for me.
