The PlayStation team and Sony may be giving E3 2019 a miss this year, but the company still has some news to share with gamers, especially for those on the PS4.
In an upcoming system update, the PS4 party system is getting tweaked for enhanced audio quality, improved network connectivity, and upping the party limit from eight players to 16.
In the blog post on PlayStation Blog, social media director Sid Shuman added that these new features will come as an update for the PlayStation Preview Program on the PS4. North American players can also get their hands on extra features as well, such as the PS4 Second Screen mobile app that will dictate any text entered to party members.
The app can also transcribe incoming chat audio from the party. Theses app-focused offerings are currently only available to US and Canada, and only for English.
If you are interested in joining the beta for all these new bells and whistles, sign-ups are already live for North America and coming “soon” to Europe.
Unfortunately, there is a caveat. Participants in the beta can only join and create parties for other members of the preview program, but to alleviate the issue, Sony will also provide a unique access code for you to share with 20 other friends so you can still team up.
There is no doubt Sony and PlayStation are still using the remaining time the PS4 have to finetune their features, especially considering the impending reveal and release of their next-generation console, the PS5. Perhaps this is a sign of things to come for the next console release, in addition to the cross-gen multiplayer that has been hinted at.
