PS5 retro gaming controller patent from Sony uncovered

The patent for a PS5 retro gaming controller has been uncovered after it was filed with the US patents office by Sony. The trademark for the controller shows that it would be used to allow gamers to play mobile games, retro games, and watch videos through the built-in screen. Check out the images from the patent below, courtesy of Gameonze, and read on for more details.

The patent calls this device a PlayStation Multifunctional Controller. It seems as though the device will allow users to perform a number of tasks, though it also seems that this will be a type of PS5 controller. While the controller doesn’t have any joysticks, it sounds like it will be possible to use it in conjunction with the DualShock 5 in order to play games on Sony’s next generation console.

We know from details about the PlayStation 5 that the console will have some level of backwards compatibility. While the level of compatibility with older games hasn’t quite been ironed out yet, it is clear that Sony is looking to the future with an eye to bring the past with it. There are so many old PlayStation games that gamers should have the chance to play now, maybe this retro controller is Sony’s way of enabling gamers to do so.
