The next major system update for the PS4 is on the way, and it’s bringing some exciting new features to the table. It’s version 5.50, and it’s currently in beta mode which is being tested by select PS4 users. PlayStation Europe has recently released a blog post which details all the cool new stuff that’s included in the update.

Here’s a quick rundown:

  • Supersampling Mode’ for PS4 Pro – This will boost the image quality of some games on TVs that have a 2K resolution or lower.
  • Custom Wallpapers via USB – You can now customize your PS4 home screen with your own images via a USB stick.
  • Ability to delete Notifications – Old notifications can be deleted to keep your Notifications menu clean and organized.
  • BG Music in PS Now – Background music can now be used when streaming a game via PlayStation Now (may not always be available).
  • Quick Menu improvements – Ability to now access custom friends’ lists and also a volume shortcut when playing music via Spotify, Media Player or USB Music Player.
  • Hide Unused Apps – Content can now be hidden like betas and demos.
  • New Tabs in Library – A new ‘This PS4’ and ‘PS Plus’ tab have been added to the Library UI which display games you’ve purchased via your PSN ID, games that have been bought but not yet installed and free monthly PS Plus titles that are currently available.
  • Play Time Management – Targetted at parents, this new feature allows the total daily play time to be tracked, and a limit can be set for the amount of time that can be played per day. Notifications will be displayed telling kids when their allotted time is about to run out.
